Enhancement of gross enrolment ratio, provision of wide access and quality education has become the challenge for the higher education institutions throughout India. With the 11 % GER in the year 2007 The Higher Education Department of Govt. visualized expansion and opening of more colleges in J&K. It is under this plan Govt. Degree College Paloura came into being with its first academic session 2008-2009. The college started functioning in govt. Higher Secondary School Paloura under the able guindace of Prof. (Dr.) Anil Goel, Head of the institution with the seasoned guidance by the then Nodal Principal Prof. (Dr.) Sham Lal Gupta of GGM science college. The college was shifted from Govt. Higher Secondary School Paloura on 6 October, 2009 due to paucity of space to the old university campus canal road in the Civil Deptt. of GCET and is presently functioning from there. The college was allotted only arts stream.
